THE STORY
OF FRENCH MOUNTAIN LOG HOMES
January 1st marked a significant date for John and Dan Stranahan, not only owners and operators of American Tree Co., but now also of French Mountain Log Homes. Both companies are third generation companies with deep roots in the area.
Originally founded in 1964 by John and Dan’s grandfather as French Mountain Lumber Co., starting out as a company that harvested timber and sold it to local lumber companies. The growth of the business eventually led to the purchase of a sawmill that produced it’s own lumber. In 1979, the parent company Stranahan Industries was formed. From this, two companies were established, French Mountain Lumber Company and French Mountain Log Homes. In 1991, a fire destroyed the sawmill and the decision was made to strictly concentrate on manufacturing quality log homes.
French Mountain Log Homes is in the business of fulfilling your Adirondack Dreams. Whether that be a kit that you can complete yourself or a turn key home. French Mountain Log Homes and American Tree Company together can build your home complete, from excavation to your finished log home with a customized sunroom. They are also affiliated with area banks and realtors to help you with your needs in these areas as well. As you can see they truly aim to make the experience of building your new home as easy and pleasurable as possible with their kind and supportive staff.
Established in 1982, as yet another separate entity, American Tree Company was born. In response to a sluggish economy that effected the lumber and pulp industry, American Tree Company was able to meet residential and commercial tree removal needs with success and grew into a full service tree care company. As such, American Tree Company provides all and any of your tree care needs from stump removal to the take down of an entire tree via our brand new 2007 Altec 26 ton crane with 150’ of reach and anything in between. Dan is an ISA certified arborist #NY0688A and therefore, not only claims to be a tree care professional, he is.
American Tree Company’s motto is, “there is no such thing as wood waste”. With that in mind, they operate a full service wood waste reduction facility. They accept all clean “wood waste” at their facility at 1347 Bay Road in Lake George at no charge. They also take stumps for a minimal fee. All the wood that comes into the yard is recycled. The wood chips used in area co-generation plants for use in heating and electricity to help support the clean air act.
Recognized by the DEC as both a primary (harvesting wood into finished product) and secondary (wood waste and recycling) wood-use facility, American Tree Company prides itself in being a “green energy” company. “Bring your wood “waste” to us, we will find a use for it”, says John.
Also, as all the area landscapers know as well as some homeowners, American Tree Company manufactures the areas best premium bark mulch. They also have a wide range of color enhanced mulch, top soil and a variety of landscape stone. These products are sold direct and by the yard so the cost is well below what one would normally pay retail.
As third generation, Christian based companies, both American Tree Company and French Mountain Log Homes take great responsibility in providing the best work and relationships our customers deserve. They would like you to stop by for a visit at their joint offices located at 663 State Route 149 in Lake George, give them a call, go on the web or see us at the North Country Home, Remodeling and Backyard Expo at the Lake George Forum March 28-30. |
